My Instrument Is Damaged. What Should I Do?
The good news is that almost every instrument can be repaired. Our skilled technicians and expert luthiers perform everything from routine maintenance and adjustments to major repairs and complete restorations. If you rent your instrument from us, many repairs are covered under your protection plan.
What to Do First
Save all broken pieces, no matter how small. Keeping every piece helps us complete repairs more quickly and achieve the best possible results.
Contact us as soon as possible so we can arrange service at one of our repair locations or through your school's service program, where available.
If your instrument cannot be repaired while you wait, we will provide a loaner instrument whenever possible so you can continue playing.
Routine Maintenance
String instruments are much like automobiles—they require regular care and maintenance to perform their best.
Normal wear-and-tear items include:
Strings
Bow hair
Tuning pegs
Bridges
Endpins
Open seams
Fingerboard adjustments
General bow maintenance
In most cases, these routine repairs and maintenance services are covered under your protection plan.
Damage and Repair Costs
If your instrument is cracked, has missing wood, a broken neck, or other structural damage—whether caused by accident or negligence—you will be responsible for the cost of repairs up to your deductible. You will never be charged more than the deductible for a single repair incident.
Intentional Damage, Abuse, Neglect, or Theft
You will be responsible for the full replacement cost of an instrument, case, or bow that is intentionally damaged beyond repair or damaged due to abuse or neglect.
If your instrument has been stolen (not simply misplaced or lost at school), please:
File a police report with your local police department.
Send us a copy of the report.
Once we receive the report, you will be responsible only for your deductible.
